VlaPoLo7 abstract of ADAPTIVE QUESTION LOGICS FOR SINGULAR CAUSAL EXPLANATION

چکیده
November the 26th 1914, early in the morning. In the river mouth of the Medway, a fleet of impressive battle ships is ready to oppose maritime attacks on Great Britain. But everything is still quiet, at that moment. However, at a couple of minutes to eight, one of the ships is suddenly surrounded by flames, without the slightest previous warning. Next, a big explosion was heard for ten miles around. [1]

Abstract versus Causal Explanations ISPS philsci_archive
In the recent literature on causal and non-causal scientific explanations, there is an intuitive assumption (which we call the ‘abstractness assumption’) according to which an explanation is non-causal by virtue of being abstract. In this context, to be “abstract” means that the explanans in question leaves out many or almost all causal microphysical details of the target system. After motivati...
متن کاملTruth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics
The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...
متن کاملVlaPoLo7 abstract of AN ADAPTIVE LOGIC FOR PRESUMPTIVE TRUTH
Problem solving in the sciences often forces us to rely on a pragmatic notion of truth. An adaptive logic interpreting scientific theories as pragmatically possible was already given in [9]. The logic presented in this paper refers to a complementary view on pragmatic truth: not with respect to theories but with respect to single statements, facts or data. Therefore we rely on Nicholas Reschers...
متن کاملA Conversation Analytic Study on the Teachers’ Management of Understanding-Check Question Sequences in EFL Classrooms
Teacher questions are claimed to be constitutive of classroom interaction because of their crucial role both in the construction of knowledge and the organization of classroom proceedings (Dalton Puffer, 2007). Most of previous research on teachers’ questions mainly focused on identifying and discovering different question types believed to be helpful in creating the opportunities for learners’...
متن کاملAdaptive Unstructured Grid Generation Scheme for Solution of the Heat Equation
An adaptive unstructured grid generation scheme is introduced to use finite volume (FV) and finite element (FE) formulation to solve the heat equation with singular boundary conditions. Regular grids could not acheive accurate solution to this problem. The grid generation scheme uses an optimal time complexity frontal method for the automatic generation and delaunay triangulation of the grid po...
